A Message from the
President of the Supreme Chapter
Dear First-Year Dental Student:
I
am delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate you upon your
acceptance to dental school and welcome you to the profession of dentistry.
Omicron
Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society, was founded in
1914-admission and membership being limited to those dental students, who
have distinguished themselves by a high grade of scholarship, have
demonstrated exemplary traits of character and who have shown potential
qualities for future professional growth and attainments.

where you may learn more about OKU, dentistry’s honor society, and the
requirements for membership.
I
am sure as you begin your studies you are excited, but at the same time you
are nervous. Along
with your enthusiasm, there is also a feeling of uncertainty. These
conflicting emotions, although unsettling, are to be expected.
For you have set a lofty goal for yourself, a career in dentistry is
not an easy undertaking. It will require commitment, hard work and
sacrifice. But you are an achiever, someone who is not afraid of a
challenge, an individual with ambition, drive and motivation.
I
can assure you that you are not alone.
The members of OKU at your school will be available to help you on
your way to achieving your goal.
Seek us out.
Whether in the lecture hall, a pre-clinic lab, on the clinic floor,
or just over a cup of coffee in the cafeteria, we welcome the opportunity to
be a part of your education.
And if at the end of four years you have demonstrated the qualities
necessary for membership, we will also be on hand to welcome you into OKU.
On behalf of the members of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, I wish you continued
success, and a fulfilling and rewarding career in dentistry.
