The "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence" is awarded to an individual who has shown innovation in teaching, and significant contributions to both dental education at their institution and to the entire dental education community. This year Dr. Kenneth I. Knowles was selected for this award. Dr. Kenneth I. Knowles, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics at Creighton University. Dr. Knowles received his D.D.S. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1966 and his M.S. degree and Certificate of Endodontics from the same school in 1973. He retired as a Colonel following a 25 year career in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Knowles joined the faculty of the School of Dentistry at Creighton University in 1991. Dr. Knowles has extensive experience as a lecturer both in the United States and in Europe. He has authored numerous articles and was a special contributor to the textbook, Pathways to the Pulp, editions 2 and 3. Dr. Knowles has implemented innovative teaching methodologies at Creighton University in the arena of endodontics that have served as models for other departments. He has received numerous excellence in teaching awards and honors from his peers as well as from his students, including Master of Ceremonies and Class Hooder at the university's graduation hooding ceremony. Omicron Kappa Upsilon congratulates Dr. Kenneth I. Knowles upon being this year's recipient of the "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence".
