DR. JOHN W. SHANER RECEIVES
OKU-CHARLES CRAIG TEACHING AWARD

 

     The "OKU-Charles Craig Teaching Award" recognizes young dental educators who have demonstrated new and innovative teaching techniques in the art, science and literature of dentistry.   The award was created to encourage and honor individuals who have implemented innovative teaching techniques into dental education.

    This year's recipient of the "OKU-Charles Craig Teaching Award" is Dr. John W. Shaner, from Epsilon Chapter at Creighton University Medical Center School of Dentistry.  Dr. Shaner has been a faculty member in the department of General Dentistry  at Creighton since 1999 following a distinguished 26 year career in the United States Air Force Dental Corps. He has maintained a significant teaching load, course directing multiple courses while instituting innovative curriculum enhancements in the areas of oral diagnosis, caries risk assessment, temporomandibular disorders and management of medically complex patients.

    In addition, Dr. Shaner has published a landmark article on the very timely subject of  pathophysiology and dental effects of methamphetamine abuse, as well as given mutiple invited presentations and continuing education courses. He has provided much university and community service as well as providing clinical service both in the university setting and in an extramural practice. 

    Omicron Kappa Upsilon congratulates Dr. John W. Shaner upon being the 2005 recipient of the "Charles Craig Teaching Award".
