Beta Chapter Sponsors Lecture-
    
On December 5, 2006 Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh, spoke about his experiences with the George Washington Project.  Data from his work was used to create life-like replicas of the young George Washington at historic stages of his life.  These replicas have recently been placed on view at the Mount Vernon Estate of George Washington.  Dr. Schwartz's work has been cited in local and national newspapers, on national television broadcasts and on NPR. His presentation was open to all students, faculty and staff-

Beta Chapter and ACD-    
    
On April 17, 2007 students, faculty and staff were invited to learn about "The Benefits of Developing a Sound Practice, Business, and Risk Management Program" presented by the Honorable Donald Machen. A jurist of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Court of Common Pleas, 5th Judicial District, Dr. Machen is also an OKU alumni member, Class of 1972, who in addition to a DMD, holds Masters Degrees in Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Business Administration, as well as a Juris Doctor. This lecture was given at a joint meeting of Beta Chapter and the western Pennsylvania section of the American College of Dentists.

William S. Kramer Award
Christine Rylands Young Award

 


William S. Kramer Award
-This award recognizes a third year dental student who embodies the ideals of scholarship, character and potential promise for advancement of the profession of dentistry and service to humanity as Dr. William S. Kramer demonstrated throughout his career of dedication to the profession and the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Beta Chapter's recipient of the Dr. William S. Kramer Award was Ms. Melissa Brown.

 

 

Christine Rylands Young Award-This award was established by Beta Chapter to acknowledge a second year dental student with the highest GPA in their class.  It is named to honor a beloved alumni member, Christine Rylands-Young who passed away from a sudden illness.  This year's recipient is Mr. David Percherski.
