Omicron Kappa Upsilon
Bulletin
| Supreme Chapter Volume XLII October 2007 |
At the 2002 annual meeting of the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon a motion was passed to establish the "OKU New Educator Research Grant" with the provision that the awarding of the first grant be delayed until the necessary funds are raised to finance the award. The goals of the "OKU New Educator Research Grant" are twofold; first, to enable junior faculty to develop research skills with an established mentor and second, to provide junior faculty with the opportunity to initiate a research project that can develop into a larger, extramurally funded study. It is expected that the recipient will present the results of his/her research at the annual business meetings of the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and the American Dental Education Association immediately following completion of the project. Since its inception in 1914, OKU has been committed to encouraging students of dentistry in the achievement of academic excellence. The Board of Directors believes the “OKU New Educator Research Grant” will allow OKU to expand the pursuit of this ideal by encouraging the career development of new dental educators while contributing to the existing body of knowledge. At 2005 annual business meeting of the Supreme Chapter of OKU, a motion was passed to suspend further solicitation of donations to the Craig Award as this award is now self-sustaining and to begin to solicit contributions for the “OKU New Educator Research Grant”. Pursuant to these motions the Board of Directors has begun the task of soliciting the necessary money to begin the funding of the “OKU New Educator Research Grant”. The Board of Directors is pleased to acknowledge the following contributions to the "OKU New Educator Research Grant" for 2007:
Contributions to the “OKU New Educator Research Grant” should be mailed to Ms. Jan John. Please make your check payable to "OKU-Supreme Chapter" and note on the check that it is to be directed to the “OKU New Educator Research Grant”. |
