The "OKU-Charles Craig Teaching Award" recognizes young dental educators who have demonstrated new and innovative teaching techniques in the art, science and literature of dentistry. The award was created to encourage and honor individuals who have implemented innovative teaching techniques into dental education. This year's recipient of the "OKU-Charles Craig Teaching Award" is Dr. Lucinda J. Lyon from Delta Delta Chapter at The University of the Pacific. Dr. Lyon received her BS degree in Dental Hygiene from University of Southern California in 1978. She received her dental degree from The University of the Pacific in 1986 and became a full time faculty member in 2003. She is presently serving as the acting director of the Department of Dental Practice. Dr. Lyon developed a new dental hygiene program on the Stockton campus; she was tasked to design an innovative curriculum. . A common thread throughout her letters of recommendation was her innovative teaching style that created a feeling of mutual respect, dignity, and self-worth. She is the recipient of a University Teacher Innovation Awards. Significantly, Dr. Lyon is recognized by her peers as an individual that fosters future dental educators. Through her vision and dedication she has attracted her graduates to return to the faculty and to give back to the profession and the community.. Omicron Kappa Upsilon congratulates Dr. Lucinda J. Lyon upon being the 2008 recipient of the "Charles Craig Teaching Award".
