The "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence" is awarded to an individual who has shown innovation in teaching, and significant contributions to both dental education at their institution and to the entire dental education community. This year Dr. Stanton Harn was selected for this award. Dr. Stanton Harn received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Anatomy) from the University of Utah. He was elected an honorary member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 1989 by Alpha Alpha Chapter. Dr. Harn is a professor in the department of Oral Biology at the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. His teaching responsibilities at UNMC include:
Dr. Harn is the recipient of 25 College of Dentistry Outstanding Teaching Awards, 2 University of Nebraska Alumni Association Awards, one UNMC Distinguished Teacher Award and one Outstanding Educator of America Award. In addition to teaching Dr. Harn proposed and initiated the formation of the College of Dentistry Museum. Thirty years later, he is the Curator of the Dental Museum and, along with help from alumni and friends, has one of the largest collections of dental artifacts in any public institution in the US. The museum chronicles the history of dentistry in Nebraska from the 1850's to the present, paralleling the history of dentistry in the state of Nebraska. Omicron Kappa Upsilon congratulates Dr. Stanton Harn upon being this year's recipient of the "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence".
